English is described as the first global lingu franca or international language which is the dominant language worldwide. It is even required to some instances of communication, business, seafaring and science.
Since the island of Guam is a territory of the United States we would all expect that people here can fluent in the said language. United States has their military bases here which mean many Americans live in the island. However, do not forget that the island’s population is made up of different races (Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Pilipino and more) including locals (Chamorro) have their own language which is a Malayo-Polynesian or Austronesian language).
Being said, schools that offer learning to speak in English, even to non-English speakers are common in Guam. Their secondary schools and college universities both offer this study. It is said that the numbers of Chamorro speakers have dropped and the new generations of Guamanians or locals are less likely to know the language because of the the English language’s impact and influence to the island. Now a day, generally speaking, the island uses English as their way to communicate but still there are many non-English speakers that live in the island that needs and wants to learn about English language.
